MORPHEUS8

Morpheus8 is a fractional radiofrequency treatment used to improve skin quality, reduce sagging, and tighten skin. Fractional radiofrequency works both within and below the skin to stimulate collagen, elastin and other proteins important to tissue health.

What is
fractional RF?

Morpheus8 Fractional Radiofrequency (RF) is a flexible treatment that uses the body’s own regenerative mechanisms to stimulate collagen and elastin, improve skin quality, tighten the ligaments that support the skin and – where we wish to – reduce small fat deposits.

After the treatment area is anaesthetised, an array of microneedles are introduced under the skin. A tiny electrode at the tip of each needle delivers radiofrequency energy into the tissue. This creates small areas of intense heat, which activates the body’s own regenerative mechanisms.

Following a treatment the body will break down and reabsorb any damaged proteins, in the process stimulating production of collagen, elastin and hyaluronic acid. The remodelling effect results in higher levels of these proteins, ultimately tightening and rejuvenating the skin.

WHAT IS IT USED FOR?

Morpheus8 can be used to improve:

-       Skin quality anywhere on the face, neck or body

-       Festoons or malar mounds on the cheeks

-       Mild jawline, under chin and neck heaviness or laxity

-       Under eye bags

-       Skin texture, fine lines, crepiness and laxity

Dr Scott Ellis performing Morpheus8

It is important to note that there are a variety of causes for the facial concerns listed above, and therefore a consultation with Dr Ellis is needed to assess your facial structure and assess whether you may benefit from Morpheus8 Fractional RF. Morpheus8 can be used as a standalone procedure, or in combination with other complimenting procedures depending on your facial anatomy. It may be combined with microcannula liposuction, fat transfer to face, FaceTite, upper eyelid lift (blepharoplasty) or injectable collagen stimulating therapy depending on the aesthetic goal.

FAQs

  • Morpheus8 is an in-clinic procedure. The length of the treatment session and type of anaesthetic used can vary depending on the area being treated.

Dr Ellis first numbs the area to be treated. He performs Morpheus8 treatments under the use of an injected local anaesthetic, ensuring that treatments are as comfortable and painless as possible. This may take the form of nerve blocks or direct numbing underneath the skin.

The Morpheus8 handpiece is then used to deliver the RF energy through the skin into the deeper layers. During treatment you will feel some pressure on the treated area.

  • Dr Ellis finds that most people are comfortable during the Morpheus8 treatment when he uses nerve blocks or injected local anaesthetic.

Topical anaesthetic cream does not penetrate the skin deep enough to keep people comfortable during Morpheus8 treatments, hence why Dr Ellis uses nerve blocks or injected local anaesthetic. People who have reported uncomfortable treatments have usually only had topical anaesthetic cream used.

  • Following the treatment session, the skin may be red, swollen and occasionally bruised. This generally lasts between 1-4 days, depending on the settings used and the body’s response. The skin may feel rough & be more sensitive for 3-5 days – it is important to follow your post-treatment recommendations during this time. You may also be prescribed a post-treatment cream – it is important to use this as instructed.

Areas on the face tend to recover quicker than the neck & body. If treatment on the neck, hands or other part of the body is required, recovery may be longer than indicated above.

  • The number of treatment sessions varies based on a person’s individual skin, the concern being addressed and their response to early treatment sessions. As a general guide most people will require 2-4 treatments, spaced 4-6 weeks apart. Dr Ellis will provide you with a personalised recommendation during your consultation.

  • Side effects associated with Fractional RF treatment are uncommon, but still possible. These include:

    - Delayed recovery and visible skin marks

    - Infection of the treated area (extremely rare)

    - Unwanted pigmentation changes – darker (hyperpigmentation) or lighter (hypopigmentation). These changes may be temporary or, rarely, permanent.

    - Burns to the skin, which may cause blistering, scabs or scars (extremely rare)

  • Absolutely. Sun protection is always important for our skin, but is of paramount importance when undertaking Fractional RF treatments.

We should all wear a broad-spectrum sunscreen daily - even if working from the office (as UVA radiation passes through glass, creating damage to our skin even when indoors). We understand that many sunscreens are unpleasant to wear on a daily basis, and sunscreen preference is very individual - feel free to have a chat with us for some suggested sunscreens to try that are designed for daily wear (including under makeup). Protective clothing (hats, long sleeves, sunglasses etc) and knowing when the UV index is high is useful for minimising sun damage and potential pigment changes - check out the SunSmart app (developed by the Cancer Council), which is a great tool to understand when the UV index is high in your area.

  • It’s useful to think of in-clinic treatments like visiting a personal trainer. Even though you may visit once a month, what you do at home counts more - it’s super important to train in the interim to see results!

When undertaking Fractional RF treatment for skin rejuvenation Dr Scott usually designs and prescribes a bespoke prescription skincare regimen to ensure the best results possible. The cream(s) are designed for your skin and usually compounded by a specialist pharmacy - specifically for you. You’ll receive information following your consultation on what’s in your formulation and how to use it in a safe & effective way.

  • Consultations with Dr Ellis are $125. There is no Medicare rebate for this consultation.

As Morpheus8 procedures are customised for every person depending on their individual needs, the cost for the procedure varies. The cost to address the common concerns outlined above can range between $975 - $2,250 per session. You will be provided with a formal fee estimate following your consultation.

  • If you have any of the facial concerns outlined above, Morpheus8 may be of benefit to you. To assess whether this procedure may be of benefit for your specific situation, Dr Ellis will complete a comprehensive assessment. During your consultation you will learn what may be contributing to your individual concerns, as well as what treatment options are reasonable for you to consider, which might help you to decide whether this treatment may be right for you.
